GGCE 2023 The Making Of The Crown for Miss Universe
In Partnership With Silverbird
Media Organization

GGCE 2023 The Crown of Value: A Symbol of Nigerian Women's Empowerment

The creation of the crown for the Miss Universe pageant stands as a remarkable testament to the capabilities of Nigerian women and the nation’s rich mineral resources. A collaborative endeavor between Women in Mining (WIMIN) Nigeria and Silverbird Media, the project aimed to highlight the potential of value addition within the mining sector while empowering women in the process.

The crown’s origins trace back to the heart of Nigeria’s mining industry, where women miners extracted the raw materials that would eventually adorn the head of a global beauty queen.

This process, often overlooked, is integral to the nation’s economic landscape. The subsequent transformation of these raw materials into a stunning piece of jewelry by skilled Nigerian artisans, under the creative direction of Kiki Lucas, is a testament to the country’s craftsmanship and design prowess.

Credit acknowledgments goes to:

  • Kiki Lucas for the design of the crown
  •  Tejiri Odusina of Teji inc. for the crown craftmanship
  • Gemstones donated by Chibuike Gems of AC&C Priceless.
  • Gemstone cutters Mr. Niyi of Fasocca Gems
  • Gemstone cutter Mr. Ifianyi
Central to this project was the empowerment of Nigerian women. By involving them at every stage, from mining to crafting, the initiative showcased their potential and contributions to the economy. Tejiri Omologe, a key figure in the crown’s creation, exemplifies the talent and dedication of Nigerian women in the industry. The crown itself is more than just an accessory; it is a symbol of Nigeria’s abundant resources, the skill of its people, and the nation’s commitment to sustainable development. The project has elevated the profile of the mining sector, drawing attention to the opportunities for value addition and job creation
